Providence native and highly respected in the culinary world, Executive Chef Dr. Gary Comella has been leading the University Club Providence dining program since 1984. His unparalleled talent, inherent connection to food, and commitment to his craft are expressed in every dish, menu, and experience. His daily menu changes and philosophy of sourcing ingredients from local farms and international renown suppliers reflect the utmost commitment to quality and creativity.
Graduating summa cum laude from Johnson & Wales, he was awarded an honorary doctorate there that catapulted his culinary career around the world. Chef Gary hosted many international culinary events for various chefs and organizations including culinary hotspots, in Monaco and France. Recognized as one of Southern California’s Top Chefs and two-time winner of the Los Angeles Chef of the Year Award, he’s spent time in various three-star Michelin restaurants, including Le Bernadin in NYC and Santa Caterina in Amalfi Italy. During his tenure, Dr. Comella has also had the pleasure to cook for many Hollywood celebrities and even Britain’s Royal Family.
Since joining UClub in the ’80s, Dr. Comella transformed the club into the premier dining destination in New England and continues to set the bar in the New England culinary scene every year.
